Yesterday in Jackson County Circuit Court, Jolene Gadbois Lowe, 36, of Hixton, was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment, consisting of 5 years of initial confinement and 3 years of extended supervision, following a conviction for burglary with battery committed upon a person in Jackson County case number 2021CF142. According to the criminal complaint, in August 2021, the victim arrived at her father’s residence and heard voices therein. She encountered the defendant in the living room, and a male later identified as the defendant’s husband, Aaron Lowe, fled out a broken window. The victim attempted to keep the defendant at the scene while Aaron Lowe flung rocks and 2x4s at her, which struck her in the head. The defendant was thus able to flee through the window. The victim observed both Lowes fleeing the scene on separate vehicles. The victim identified damage to the dwelling, missing property, and items that did not belong there. The Lowes were later arrested at their residence by the Jackson County Emergency Response Team with the assistance of the La Crosse County bearcat and the use of chemical munitions because they had barricaded themselves in their residence. Some of the stolen property was later located at that residence.

Jolene Lowe was also sentenced to 3 years imprisonment, consisting of 1.5 years of initial confinement and 1.5 years of extended supervision, following two convictions for identity theft for financial gain in Jackson County case number 2022CF16. According to the criminal complaint, the defendant utilized the financial transaction cards of another person without consent and used the funds to shop online at wish.com and to put money on the inmate accounts of her husband, Aaron Lowe, and another inmate.

Several other charges and cases were dismissed and read in, which means the defendant was not convicted of them, but they could be considered by the court at sentencing.

Jackson County Assistant District Attorney Jeri Marsolek argued for a prison sentence with 8 years of initial confinement, noting the ongoing impact of the burglary offense on the victim, that the defendant’s criminal history in multiple states indicated that she could not be rehabilitated successfully in the community, and that her ongoing victimization of others presented a danger to the public. The defendant asked the court to order probation.

Aaron Lowe is scheduled to be sentenced for the role he played in the burglary, and other offenses, on Friday, June 7, 2024.
