Lillian “Lil” Elaine Nyen, age 88, of Blair, passed away peacefully at the Grand View Care
Center in Blair on Monday, December 11, 2023.
Lillian was born on December 9, 1935 to Edward and Evelyn (Erickson) Walsted at their home
in Taylor. Lil married Wayne Nyen of Blair and they were blessed with six children, whom she
spoke of pride when talking about any of them.
Lillian was a very talented and creative woman. She was an excellent singer while in high
school and went to state solo and ensemble contests where she won top medals for her
singing talent. Lillian was also one of the best seamstresses in Blair where many people
brought their sewing needs. She was not only able to mend the normal holes and tears, but
also created her daughter-in-laws wedding gown and several bridesmaids dresses. Lil also
had a talent for refinishing old wood furniture and she made all of this look so easy. She
turned many pieces of worn out items into something beautiful that people were able to
appreciate again.
Lillian was also a very talented person with her words. She wrote many poems throughout
her life that were mostly kept to herself. These poems were written from her personal
experiences and feelings. She sent some of the poems she wrote to different publishing
places where she was acknowledged for her talent. Lil took great pride in all of the poems as
they expressed her innermost feelings at the time she wrote them.
Lillian is survived by her children, Warren Nyen, David (Marie) Nyen, James (Sue) Nyen and
Lori (Todd) Reismann all of Blair; a daughter-in-law, Marsha Nyen of Blair; thirteen
grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two sisters, Wilma Brown of Lacona, NY and Rose
Barbero of Edina, MN and a brother, Elwin (Rosalie) Walsted of Milton.
In addition to her parents, Lillian was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Louaine Nyen;
a son, Steve Nyen and a granddaughter, Sara Mattson. Lil will be deeply missed by her family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in Blair Lutheran
Church with burial in the Rest Haven Cemetery both in Blair. Pastor Paul Sannerud will
officiate.
Family and friends are welcome to visitation two hours prior to the service at the church.
Lillian’s family would like to thank the staff at the Grand View Care Center and St. Croix
Hospice for taking care of our mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. May she rest in
eternal peace.
