A March trial date has been set in Wood County for a cold-case homicide from 1984. 57-year-old John Sarver was just 21 when investigators say he killed a woman who was found by her son in a home in the town of Saratoga. Eleanore Roberts was 73 years old. An autopsy showed she had been beaten and stabbed with a pair of scissors. Finger and palm prints were taken from the home. Over the years, advances in evidence processing technologies led authorities back to Sarver. He reportedly told one witness he beat Roberts’ to death “by accident.”
