Mary Jane Reshel, 94, long-time resident of City Point, passed away May 24, 2022 surrounded by family at Black River Memorial Hospital under the care of Black River Hospice.
She was born June 20, 1927 to Charitan and Hannah (Schwec) Palienco in City Point, Wisconsin. She married Robert P. Reshel on August 7, 1946 in Black River Falls. She was a dedicated wife and loving mother to her two daughters.
Mary enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. She loved attending church picnics and taking “Sunday Drives” with her husband and family throughout Wisconsin. Each year she looked forward to the Ladies Trip she took with her daughters and sister. They explored many different places, including New York. Mary also cherished the many summer weekends she spent in Hatfield camping and having cookouts with family.
She was an avid gardener and loved spending time growing vegetables and tending to her flower beds. Mary enjoyed canning, cooking and baking and was also a talented seamstress. She was a proud Grandma and cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Susan Reshel (Robert Hart) of Black River Falls and Kitty (Mick) Marti of Arpin; her grandchildren, Travis (Melissa) Marti and their children, Allison, Chloe, Jacob and Ryan, Marcus (Tara) Marti and their child, Astrid, and Hannah (Sam) Phelan; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Robert P. Reshel; and three siblings, Helen (Walter) Secard, Afanas Palienco, and Lena (Felix) Grutzik.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Torgerson Funeral Home in Black River Falls. Father Dan Thelen will officiate. Burial will follow at the Martyrs Chapel Catholic Cemetery in the Township of City Point. Friends and family are invited for visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
