Maynard Allen Rave Sr. “Wowewįpį” (Good Thought), age 73, passed away January 7, 2022 at Black River Memorial Hospital.

Maynard was born May 14, 1948 to Duncan and Rhoda (Hall) Rave in Black River Falls, WI. Maynard met Jessie in the 7th grade and remained lifelong sweethearts for 60 years. He married Jessie (Parker) Rave May 21, 1966 and they celebrated 55 years of marriage this past year.

He attended Black River Falls High School where he was not only active but excelled in sports, especially basketball and football. Maynard was well known in basketball and softball leagues around the state. His stories of his younger years included many memories of the teammate friends he had made along the way.

He later attended Western Technical College for auto mechanics, culinary arts, and then Police basic training. He was employed as a Deputy Sheriff for Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. His other jobs included working at the cranberry marsh, school bus driver, racecar driver, seasonal worker, truck driver, facilities manager for the Majestic Pines, and then health facilities manager for the HoChunk Health Care Center. He truly was a jack of all trades.

Maynard enjoyed watching his beloved Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. His greatest achievement and pride of his life was his family. He enjoyed collecting antique glasses and had a massive coin collection and other Knick knacks he could find at flea markets. He also enjoyed visiting with his special friends, Don (Pooj) and Diane Posielenzny.

Maynard is survived by his wife, Jessie; children, Rodney (Barbie) Rave, Lance (Michelle) Rave, Maynard Jr. (Samantha) Rave, Travis (Bobbi) Rave, Jeriah Sr. (Erin) Rave, Mike (Dana) Rave, Brandon (Whitney) Rave, and Krista Red Cloud; 48 grandkids and great grandkids; siblings, Maxine (Elliot) Kolner, Valerie (Pat) Bartlett, Loren (Roxanne) Rave, and sisters in law, Ruth Rave and Martina LittleWolf.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Amber Rose Rave; siblings, Gloria, Meredith, Reuben, Brian, and Sharon.

Funeral Services for Maynard will be Monday, January 10, 2022 at the District 1 Community Center (N7261 Warrior Ave. Black River Falls, WI 54615). Gabriel Falcon will be officiating. Family and friends are invited to visitation Sunday, January 9, 2022 at the Buswell Funeral Home from 2:00-4:00 PM, and then from 10-12 Monday before the service at the District 1 Community Center.
