No Threat Discovered After Active Shooter Reported

This morning, December 9th, at about 10:35, the Jackson County Communications Center received unconfirmed third-hand reports of a possible active shooter at the Family Health Center’s Black River Falls Dental Center in the Town of Brockway.

Sheriff’s deputies and Ho-Chunk Police quickly responded and checked the building and surrounding businesses. Authorities say no threat was found, and there is no danger to the community.

Further investigation revealed the report likely stemmed from a neighboring law enforcement agency conducting a training exercise with a similar scenario. That agency had taken steps to notify the public in advance.

Officials emphasize that the initial information came from an unofficial online source not connected to the Sheriff’s Office. They remind the public that official updates will come through press releases, the Nixle alert system, and the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

The Sheriff’s Office thanks the community for its cooperation. Ho-Chunk Emergency Management assisted in the response. The incident remains under investigation.
