Norman Owen Johnson, age 94, passed away Friday July 9, 2021.
He was born on June 24, 1927 to Neil O and Esther I (Larkin) Johnson in Melrose, WI. He grew up in the Shake Hollow area and attended the Highland School. He later graduated from the Melrose High School in 1946. He enlisted with the United States Marine Corps on August 31, 1946 and was honorably discharged as Corporal on August 14, 1948. He later attended and graduated from Farm and Industry Short Course at UW-Madison.
He married Margie Jean Gilbertson on August 13, 1949 at Little Norway Lutheran Church. He and Margie farmed together in the Town of Irving all their working lives until retiring to their home in Black River Falls in 1994.
Norman was involved with many organizations over the years. He was a member of the Jackson County Farm Bureau, the Jackson County Fair Board, and the Holstein Association. He was the Treasurer of the Town of Irving for many years and a member of the Little Norway Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council and in the church choir. He was also the Dairy Leader of the Irving Sticktights 4-H club for many years.
After retirement, Norman enjoyed gardening in his back yard and feeding the birds and squirrels. He cherished time with his grandkids and attending events that they were involved in.
Surviving Norman are his sons, David (Jennifer) and Allen (Lisa); grandchildren Alex, Jared, Caleb, Isaac, Arianna and Carter; sister-in-law Alene and cousin Ken Larkin of Chippewa Falls, WI; a nephew, Bruce (Theresa) and one niece, Lori (Ron Flug).
He was preceded in death by his wife Margie, his parents, two brothers, Lawrence and Allen, sister-in-law JoAnne Johnson and nephew Larry Johnson.
The family would like to thank: Black River Hospice, BHome personal care workers, Black River Falls and Hixton EMS, Black River Memorial Hospital, VA homebased primary care program, and Jackson County ADRC. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Kay Bradt and Hilarie Keehn, Norman’s special in home care givers, who made it possible for Norman to reside at home.
Funeral Services for Norman will be Wednesday July 14, 2021 at Little Norway Lutheran Church. Pastor Calvin Thorson will officiate. Burial with full Military Honors will follow the service at the church cemetery. Friends may call on the family during Visitations both; Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Torgeron Funeral Home 408 N. Water St., in Black River Falls, and from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Wednesday morning at the church before the service. A Reception will follow the burial.
