Officer Involved Death Investigation in Eau Claire County, Wis

The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating an officer-involved death in Town of Union Monday morning.

Authorities say deputies from the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7:25 a.m. to a three-vehicle crash at Highway 312 and Highway 12. One person fled the scene on foot.

A deputy later located the individual nearby, where officials say the person brandished a knife. The deputy fired their weapon, striking the individual.

Emergency crews attempted lifesaving measures, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers or members of the public were injured.

The officer involved was wearing a body camera and has been placed on administrative duty.

The DCI, with assistance from multiple agencies, continues to investigate and will forward its findings to the Eau Claire County District Attorney.
