Officer Involved Death Investigation in Superior, Wis

The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating an officer-involved death that occurred April 7th in the City of Superior. Authorities say a Superior police officer located a wanted person on Oakes Avenue just before 10 p.m., where two additional individuals were present.

One of those individuals, 42-year-old David Menton, attempted to flee and became involved in a physical altercation with the officer. During that struggle, the officer discharged his weapon, striking Menton. A 9-millimeter handgun was also recovered at the scene.

Life-saving measures were attempted, but Menton was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer was injured during the incident and is reported in stable condition at a local hospital.

The officer was wearing a body camera and has been placed on paid administrative leave. The Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the case, with findings to be turned over to the Douglas County District Attorney once the investigation is complete.
