Clark County Extension will host a pasture walk at the Stephen and Rachel Sauder organic dairy farm at W7170 CTY HWY N, Withee, WI 54498 beginning at 9:45 October 7. The program will be finished by 3:00 PM.
Following the dry summer, a discussion led by Melissa Ohlrich, UW-Madison Division of Extension Regional Crops and Soils Educator will feature direct seeding annuals into established grass stands to improve pasture productivity. Matt Lippert, Regional Dairy Educator, will lead a discussion on including legumes to improve forage quality, yield and protein content in pastures. Building soil fertility in a grazing system will also be discussed. An update on organic milk markets will be provided by an Organic Valley Cooperative representative. Weather permitting, the presentations will be held indoors to be followed by a free will offering lunch and then a pasture walk in the afternoon.
