As daylight saving time begins March 8, ReadyWisconsin is encouraging residents to review and update their emergency preparedness plans. The reminder comes from Wisconsin Emergency Management, part of the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs, which says the time change is a good opportunity to make sure families are ready for unexpected emergencies.
Officials recommend reviewing family emergency plans, updating contact information, and assembling or restocking home and vehicle emergency kits. A basic home kit should include enough water for three days, along with items like flashlights, extra batteries, first aid supplies, important documents, medications, and supplies for pets.
Spring is also a good time to prepare homes for severe weather by cleaning gutters, trimming tree branches, checking sump pumps, reviewing insurance coverage, and testing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
More preparedness tips and resources are available through ReadyWisconsin online and on social media.
