California-based Niagara Bottle Company has withdrawn its proposal for a water bottling facility in Eau Claire. The City Council was about to take the controversial issue up at its Tuesday meeting when the company pulled out. Council members voted unanimously to postpone discussed. Supporters were excited about the prospect of dozens of new jobs and additional tax revenue, but opponents raised concerns about water quality, climate change, and plastic waste. Niagara had projected 58 new jobs at the plant, which would have used about nine-percent of the city water plant’s output.
