Ramona L. English

Ramona L. English, 93, of Arcadia, died peacefully on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at the
Grandview Care Center in Blair.
Ramona was born on December 23, 1929, in Glencoe Township, Buffalo County, the only child
to Clarence “Pat” and Orphie (Wiemer) Kreid. She was united in marriage to John R. English in
the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parsonage in Arcadia on November 21, 1950. Together the
couple worked in the insurance business, first for John’s father until their purchase of the
business. John and Ramona owned and operated English Insurance Agency in Arcadia, until his
passing in 1982. Ramona continued operations of their insurance business until her retirement,
serving clients for over 43 years in total. Ramona had a deep devotion to the Arcadia
community, shown numerously by her years of contributions of service and volunteering.
Ramona served on the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation Board, the State Bank of Arcadia Board,
and on the Board of Directors of the Arcadia Education Foundation. She volunteered with the
Arcadia Historical Society, influencing the English Garden. She was a member of the American
Legion Auxiliary since 1957, Christ Lutheran Church, and attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in
Alma. In her spare time, Ramona enjoyed golfing, bowling, and visiting with family and friends.
Her heart of gold, giving nature, and community pride will forever be remembered in the hearts
of her loved ones.
Ramona is survived by cousins: Glen (Bev) Tamke of Eau Claire, Duane (Linda) Kamla of
Janesville, Neal Kamla of Honey Creek, John (Kay) Wiemer of Arcadia and their children: John
Derek, Josh and Emily, Janet (Chris) Kislinger of Hixton, Judy (John) Stange of La Crosse and
family, JoAnn Triplett of La Crosse and family and Dennis Kreid of Washington; niece: Ann
Pogreba-Werner of St. Louis, MO; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; father and mother in-laws: Redmond
and Irma English; sister-in-law: Mae Alice (Rudy) Pogreba cousins: Ronald, Roger and Jo Ann
Tamke.
A funeral service for Ramona will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Christ
Lutheran Church in Arcadia with Pastor Rufus Kudee officiating. Family and friends are
welcome for visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be in Calvary Catholic
Cemetery, rural Arcadia. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ramona’s honor may be designated to
the Arcadia Education Foundation or Christ Lutheran Church Trust Fund. To express
