Robert Thomas Miller-Verkler, age 80 of Alma Center, died peacefully at home after a long battle with cancers, Friday August 30, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

Robert was born August 12, 2021 outside of Gays Mills, WI in Crawford Co., to Robert and Delores (Welsh) Miller. After graduating from high school Robert served his country by enlisting in the US Army. It was during his tour of duty that he acquired the training necessary to be a heavy equipment operator and learned how to fix pretty much anything mechanical.

Upon his return home to Chicago from military life he married and had two sons before later divorcing. He work for the Corps of Engineers while in Chicago as a heavy machine operator for some 20 plus years before retiring. He later moved to Wisconsin where life was slower but not necessarily easier as he took to farming. Robert loved to fish and go hunting. He learned to play the guitar and especially liked square dancing as well. Everyone who took the time to get to know Robert, loved him and will miss him. He would give you the shirt off his back.

Surviving Robert are his two sons Matthew Robert Verkler and Donald Paul Verkler; his sisters Margaret L. Norris and Rosemary E. Cimaroli; his brothers John (Nancy) Verkler and Michael (Michele) Miller as well as loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Betty J. Miller and his brother James Verkler.

Funeral Services for Robert will be Friday August 6, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Schiefelbein Funeral Home, 13507 Seventh St., in Osseo. Pastor Terry Lorenz of the Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Full Military Honors will take place at the Funeral Home following the service. A Private burial will take place at the Boscobel City Cemetery. Friends may call on the family during a Visitation at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:00 AM before the services. A luncheon and time of continued sharing is being provided at the funeral home following the services.
