A nurse at Black River Memorial Hospital is being recognized for her work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Julia Smith, infection prevention nurse, was awarded the Health Ambassador award from the Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative. The award recognizes employees at hospitals who have gone above the call of duty. Smith was nominated for the award by BRMH CEO Mary Beth White-Jacobs. Smith started her job as infection prevention nurse during 2020, and helped develop processes for staffing, COVID-19 testing, isolation practices, and vaccinations, which in turn were shared with other area organizations.
