The Sparta Police Department says Herrman Elementary was placed into a “Secure” status Friday morning following an incident off school property. Under the protocol, all students and staff were brought inside and the building was locked, though classes continued as scheduled. School District officials notified parents shortly after the Secure measure was implemented. Sparta Police said there was no direct threat to students or staff during the event. Officials thanked school personnel for their quick response in executing the safety protocol.
