Storied Past, Bright Future: What’s To Come For The Wisconsin State Park System

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is wrapping up a yearlong celebration marking 125 years of the Wisconsin State Park System and encouraging visitors to look ahead to the future.

In 2025, state parks welcomed nearly 21 million visitors, hosted more than 1,500 events, and completed major projects across the state. A new 12-month vehicle admission pass now gives visitors a full year of access from the date of purchase.

The DNR also expanded universal recreation, adding accessible kayak launches and mobility mats, and brought back popular merchandise and a new Adventure Journal highlighting 125 recreation sites.

Favorite events like First Day Hikes and Free Fun Weekend will continue in 2026. More information is available through Wisconsin State Parks.
