Two Black River Falls-based companies are being recognized for major transportation projects in Wisconsin.

Lunda Construction and Hoffman Construction are among six companies receiving Excellence in Construction Awards from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The awards were presented this week at WisDOT’s annual Contractor-Engineer Conference in Wisconsin Dells.

Lunda Construction earned the Excellence in Large Structures Award for replacing the County M bridge over the South Fork of the Eau Claire River in Clark County. The project replaced an aging three-span bridge with a new seven-span structure more than twice the original length. Crews worked through extreme conditions, from sub-zero winter temperatures to spring flooding, and still completed the project a month ahead of schedule.

Hoffman Construction received the Large Contract Award for its work on the I-43 North-South project in Milwaukee County. The project expanded the interstate in both directions and included new interchanges at Good Hope Road and Brown Deer Road. WisDOT officials credit Hoffman’s innovative traffic staging and construction sequencing for keeping the project on schedule, on budget, and maintaining high quality standards.

WisDOT Secretary Kristina Boardman says the Excellence in Construction Awards highlight the dedication and expertise behind projects that strengthen Wisconsin’s transportation system and improve safety and connectivity statewide.
