Officials with the Trempealeau County Health Department have identified the first case of the UK variant strain of COVID-19. The strain was first identified in England in November and December. The first case of this strain detected in Wisconsin was on January 12th. Researchers believe that this strain spreads more rapidly and easily than the original strain of COVID-19. Trempealeau County Health says that early studies have shown the COVID-19 vaccine to be effective in fighting off all strains of the virus. They says it’s important to continue practicing public health practices like wearing a mask in public, and maintaining a 6-foot distance from people not in your household.
