Velma Beverly Lutz, 83 of Tomah passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the Tomah Care Center.
She was born on October 19, 1942, to Floyd Revels and Mertie (Wilson) Revels. She attended Ontario Grade School and graduated from Ontario High School in May of 1961.
Velma married Clair Hicks on October 4, 1964, and the two shared seven years of marriage until Clair’s passing in December 1971. She was blessed to find love again and was united in marriage to Harry Lutz on February 2, 1973. Together they built a life filled with love and companionship until Harry’s passing in December 2019.
Velma was employed at Fort McCoy before later working at the Meat Locker in Mauston. She also became a familiar and welcoming presence at the Tomah VA Medical Center. In 1989, Velma began volunteering there, dedicating more than 40 years of service and contributing over 12,000 volunteer hours. She took great pride in assisting veterans and their families, especially by participating in Honor Escorts to pay tribute to those who served our country. This meaningful work was close to her heart, and she considered it one of the greatest privileges of her life.
She is survived by her siblings; Marie (Ed) Wagner and Mary (Mike) Antony; nieces and nephews, Tony (Lorie) Burns, Tammy Burns, Courtney (Andy) Stelter, Nathan (Taylor) Wagner, Michelle (Rob) Gardner, Josh Corning, Kady (Matt Berg) Antony, Jimmy (Katelyn) Rowell; great nieces and great nephews; great great nieces and nephews; a special friend, Cindy Gluch; other relatives and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Clair and Harry; sister, Carlene Rowell; niece, Dawn Rowell; nephew, Mike Wagner and a great nephew.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau Street, Tomah. Pastor David Dahl will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery, Township of Forest, Mount Tabor.
Relatives and friends are invited for a time of visitation on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of the services.
