The Wisconsin DNR is reminding waterfowl hunters to help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species as duck hunting season gets underway.
Saturday, September 26th, marks the northern zone duck season opener, and volunteers from Golden Sands RC&D and UW-Stevens Point will be at the Mead Wildlife Area sharing information with hunters.
Hunters are encouraged to inspect and clean boats, waders, decoys, dogs and other equipment, remove all mud and plant material, and drain water before leaving a lake or wetland.
Officials say taking just a few minutes to clean equipment can help protect Wisconsin’s wildlife habitat and hunting traditions for generations.
