WEDC Hughes Stepping Down

Gov. Tony Evers says Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation Secretary and CEO Missy Hughes – a native of Viroqua – is stepping down later this month. Hughes has led WEDC since 2019, when Evers first appointed her to oversee the state’s top economic development agency. Under her leadership, WEDC worked with companies committing more than $8 billion in planned investments and creating or retaining over 45,000 jobs. Evers praised Hughes for helping attract major employers like Microsoft and Eli Lilly to Wisconsin, while supporting small businesses through initiatives like the Main Street Bounceback Grant Program. Hughes says she’s grateful to have helped build “an economy for all, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.” A search for her replacement is already underway.
