Wisconsin Department of Justice Challenges EPA Decision to Strip Power Plant Pollution Limits and Endanger Wisconsinites

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul and a coalition of 25 states, counties and cities are challenging the Trump administration’s rollback of federal greenhouse gas pollution limits for coal- and gas-fired power plants.
The coalition filed a petition with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, asking the court to overturn the EPA’s repeal of the 2024 Carbon Pollution Standards and restore the limits.
Wisconsin DOJ says the rollback could increase greenhouse gas pollution and contribute to extreme heat, severe storms, flooding and wildfire smoke.
The coalition is also notifying the EPA that it intends to sue over what it says is the agency’s failure to regulate greenhouse gas pollution from many existing natural gas power plants.
Wisconsin is among more than 20 states participating in the legal action.
