The head of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services is leaving state government this week to join the Biden administration. Secretary-designee Andrea Palm will become the second-highest-ranking office in the U-S Department of Health and Human Services. Palm was a senior counselor for that federal agency during the Obama administration. Her boss, Governor Evers, hates to see her go, saying “she’s done an outstanding job.” Republicans haven’t been as supportive, offering some strong criticisms of the way the state has handled the coronavirus pandemic. Karen Timberlake will be appointed to take her place and will begin duties as interim secretary next Monday.
