The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is trying to counter some online misinformation about the new national mental health and suicide hotline. Some social media posts claim dialing 9-8-8 will lead the police to your door – or the possibility of involuntary hospitalizations. Not so, says the D-H-S as it pushes back. The state agency says 98-percent of the 9-8-8 calls made in Wisconsin won’t involve law enforcement response at all. It says police will come only when it is believed that someone is in immediate danger.
