The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is advising residents to limit outdoor activities due to poor air quality caused by Canadian wildfire smoke. Smoke will move southeast across the state today.
Air Quality Advisory:
Northwest Wisconsin: In effect until noon Tuesday, with levels reaching UNHEALTHY, and brief spikes to VERY UNHEALTHY.
Statewide: Extended from noon Tuesday to noon Wednesday.
Health Guidance:
At-risk groups (those with heart/lung disease, children, older adults): Minimize time and intensity of outdoor activity.
Consider moving events indoors or rescheduling.
Protective Measures:
Monitor the Air Quality Index (AQI) via the Wisconsin Data Map or the WisconsinAQM mobile app.
Sign up for air quality alerts.
Stay indoors with windows and doors closed.
Avoid indoor pollution (e.g., vacuuming, burning candles, cooking with oil).
Use high-efficiency air filters.
Wear an N95 mask if outside for extended periods.
This is Wisconsin’s second air quality advisory in 2025 due to Canadian wildfire smoke. The DNR warns that similar advisories may continue through summer. Stay alert for updates.
