Anthony Yazzie, 80, passed away on Saturday, May 31 st at the Meadowbrook Care
Facility in Black River Falls, WI.
He was born in on June 13 th , 1944 to Benedict and Maggie (Woodman) Yazzie in
Arizona, where he grew up with his four siblings; James, Betty, Mariella, and Grace.
Anthony attended and graduated from the Inner Mountain Indian School in Pheonix, AZ
before proudly serving in the U.S. Army.
Following his military service, Anthony relocated to Chicago, where he trained as a
welder and began an apprenticeship as an ironworker. This would become his lifelong
profession. Over a dedicated 45-year career, he built a legacy of skill, strength, and
commitment before retiring.
In 1972, Anthony married the love of his life, Mary Ann Funmaker. Together, they were
blessed with one son, Aaron. Anthony remained devoted to his faith throughout his life
while dealing with any obstacles while raising his family. Raised in the Native American
Church, he continued to practice and support its teachings, especially after moving to
Merrillan, WI, where he became deeply involved in the local congregation.
Anthony was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann (Funmaker) Yazzie; his
parents, Benedict and Maggie Yazzie; and his siblings—James Yazzie, Betty Kee,
Mariella Charlie, and Grace Yazzie.
He is survived by his son, Aaron Yazzie, and his cherished grandchildren: Leighlaih,
Nehemiah, and Melody Yazzie.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 2, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the District
One Community Building. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday,
June 3, followed by interment at Decorah Prairie Cemetery in Galesville.
