Authorities say a woman from Arizona is facing several felony charges after allegedly attempting to bring drugs into the Jackson Correctional Institution.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation began March 10 after staff at Jackson Correctional Institution reported someone might be trying to smuggle drugs into the facility during inmate visitation.
Investigators identified the suspect as Valencia Nash, 26, of Phoenix. Officials say Nash admitted she brought cocaine to the prison for an inmate. About six grams of cocaine were found on her.
During a search of the vehicle she arrived in, deputies also located suspected MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy. Additional interviews led investigators to search a rental property in Appleton, where more suspected cocaine was discovered.
Nash was booked into the Jackson County Jail and faces charges including delivering illegal articles to an inmate, possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, and possession of amphetamine-related drugs.
