The Wisconsin Park and Recreation Association (WPRA) has announced
that the Black River Falls All-Abilities Playground at Lunda Community Park has received
the Outstanding Park Design Award in the $500,000–$999,999 category. The award recognizes
excellence in innovation, functionality, community impact, and inclusive design.
The All-Abilities Playground was created through a collaborative effort between the City of
Black River Falls, Jackson County Behavioral Health, local organizations, and community
members. The space was thoughtfully designed to provide a safe, engaging environment for
individuals of all ages and abilities. Featuring sensory-based adaptive play technology, poured-
in-place rubber surfacing, and accessible pathways, the playground ensures that every
person—regardless of age or ability—can play, explore, and connect.
“This playground represents the heart of our community—where inclusion, creativity, and
connection come together,” said Parks and Recreation Director Jarod Meyer. “We’re proud to
offer a space where everyone feels welcome.”
The award will be formally presented at the 2026 WPRA Annual Conference and Trade Show
Awards Banquet on February 5, 2026, at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells.
The All-Abilities Playground is part of a larger vision to make Lunda Community Park a regional
destination for recreation, accessibility, and community engagement. The project was made
possible through grants, business sponsorships, and private donations, reflecting a true
community effort.
