Two Black River Falls High School student projects earned top honors at the Upper Midwest Emmy Foundation Student Production Awards April 5. The prestigious awards program honors excellence in student-produced media across the Upper Midwest.
Black River Falls High School students brought home crystal pillars in two categories:
- Arts & Entertainment/Cultural Affairs: A collaborative project by producer Sam Berra and videographers Madyson Schultz, Kaylee Wood, and Evi Bolger
The award-winning video, “Bringing Native Culture Into The Spotlight,” highlighted efforts to make Native American mainstream at the high school. - Multimedia Journalist: Sam Berra
“Softball Player Keeps Dreams Alive” covered Black River Falls softball pitcher Madyson Schultz’s road to recovery after a season-ending injury.
“I am so incredibly proud of these students. They are all committed to our program, and they show our students that living in a small town doesn’t put a limit on our potential,” said Julie Tiedens, student media adviser. “Students and alumni from Black River Falls High School do amazing things every day.”
The Upper Midwest Emmy Foundation’s Student Production Awards program celebrates the exceptional work of high school students in television, video, and film production. Earning an award is a significant achievement, and Black River Falls High School is honored to have two projects recognized this year. A third project: “Inaugural Cum Laude Event Caps Senior Experience,” produced by junior Jackson Tiedens, also earned a nomination in the multimedia journalism category.
Black River Falls High School is committed to fostering a strong media arts program that provides students with the skills and resources to excel in creative storytelling. These awards are a remarkable accomplishment for the school and its talented media production students.
