Burning Ban Issued in Vernon County

A burning ban is now in effect for the Town of Bergen and the Village of Stoddard in Vernon County.

Local officials, in coordination with the Stoddard-Bergen Fire Department, say the ban comes as the current fire danger level has reached “Very High,” as determined by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

All outdoor burning of combustible materials is prohibited, including burn piles, burn barrels, and most campfires. Campfires are only allowed in developed camping areas. Fireworks are also banned.

Officials urge residents to use caution when disposing of smoking materials, ashes, and charcoal. Charcoal grills may only be used near a residence and must be placed on a non-combustible surface.

The ban will remain in place until conditions improve. Residents are encouraged to consider alternatives such as composting, brush chipping, or using municipal brush sites.
