Effective immediately, a burning ban is in place for the Town of Bergen and the Village of Stoddard in Vernon County, in coordination with the Stoddard-Bergen Fire Department.

This action follows the VERY HIGH fire danger level, as determined by the Wisconsin DNR’s Forestry Department. All outdoor burning is prohibited — including burn piles, burn barrels, and campfires, except in developed camping areas. The use of fireworks is also banned, and residents are urged to safely dispose of matches, cigarette butts, and ashes.

Charcoal grills are allowed only when used near a residence on a non-combustible surface, like concrete.

The ban will remain in effect until fire danger conditions improve. For updates, residents can visit the Wisconsin DNR burn status website.

Officials suggest safe alternatives to burning, such as composting, chipping, or using municipal brush sites.

Stay safe and help prevent wildfires.
