Don’t Take Flu Home for the Holidays

Respiratory illness season is just around the corner, bringing an expected rise in colds, fevers, and coughs. The Monroe County Health Department is reminding residents that now is the time to get a flu shot.
Flu vaccines take about two weeks to become fully effective, so officials encourage scheduling your shot before upcoming holiday gatherings. Free flu vaccines—including high-dose shots for adults 65 and older—are available through the Health Department. Most insurance plans cover the cost, and those without insurance may qualify for free vaccines through state programs.
Appointments can be made by calling 608-269-8666, and pre-registration is encouraged at bit.ly/mc25flu.
Health officials also recommend the following to stay well this season: stay home when sick, cover coughs and sneezes, stay up-to-date on vaccines, and practice good hand hygiene.
For more information, call 608-269-8666, and follow the Monroe County Health Department on social media for updates.
