The Monroe County Health Department is offering community flu vaccine clinics this October and November, making it easier for residents to get their flu shots. Influenza can lead to serious health complications, and the CDC recommends that everyone ages six months and older receive a flu vaccine each year.

Vaccination takes about two weeks to become effective, so families are encouraged to plan ahead. The Health Department will provide a quadrivalent vaccine for individuals under 65, and a high-dose vaccine for those 65 and older. Medicare, Medical Assistance, Senior Preferred, and other insurance plans can cover the costs of the vaccines, which are $30 for the regular vaccine and $65 for the high-dose version.

Clinic Dates and Times:

November 8, 2024: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
November 22, 2024: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Location: Monroe County Health Department, 315 W. Oak St.
To pre-register or schedule an appointment, contact the Health Department at 608-269-8666 or visit bit.ly/24flu.

In addition to getting vaccinated, residents are encouraged to take preventive measures to reduce the spread of germs, such as staying home when sick, covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands frequently, and disinfecting commonly touched surfaces.
