The Wisconsin DNR says cleanup is complete at five hazardous waste sites tied to a former electronics recycler accused of fraud.

The case involved 5R Processors, a company that illegally stored and transported lead-contaminated glass from old televisions and monitors between 2011 and 2016. Cleanup took place in Ladysmith, Glen Flora, Catawba, and West Bend, with costs totaling $4.6 million.

The state funded much of the work through 2021 Wisconsin Act 234, signed by Governor Tony Evers, while restitution payments helped cover the rest. Crews removed more than 1.5 million pounds of crushed cathode ray tube glass, along with electronics, scrap plastic, mercury, and other hazardous waste.

The EPA also led asbestos abatement at the West Bend site, where the city hauled away 64 roll-off dumpsters of solid waste.

DNR officials say all five locations are now safe and ready to return to productive use, thanks to partnerships with local governments, the EPA, and community support.
