Black River Falls Fire and EMS responded to a structure fire on East Washington Street shortly before 5pm Thursday. When Crews arrived, they found heavy fire in the rear portion of the structure. Hixton Fire Department responded through automatic aid, with additional assistance requested from County Line and Hatfield Fire Departments due to the extent of the fire. Firefighters remained on scene for approximately four hours working to bring the fire under control and conducting overhaul operations. No civilians or firefighters were injured. Unfortunately, several family pets were lost in the fire. The cause remains under investigation. Multiple local and state agencies assisted at the scene, along with the American Red Cross.
