A Greenwood native is reflecting on how her hometown helped shape her career and leadership in the U.S. Navy.
Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Handling 2nd Class Tyson Collinson, a Greenwood High School graduate, enlisted in the Navy in 2006 after deciding to seek new opportunities and personal growth beyond her small hometown.
Collinson says growing up in Greenwood taught her important lessons in resilience, teamwork and leadership. Caring for younger siblings and cousins, along with participating in sports, taught her how to recognize individual strengths and weaknesses and use them to build a stronger team.
She says those same principles apply in the military, where Sailors can rely on each other’s different strengths to create a solid foundation for mission readiness and operational commitment.
