An Osseo police officer attempted a traffic stop around 10:21 p.m. on November 28th after spotting a speeding vehicle at 10th and Harmony Streets in Osseo. The driver fled, leading officers on a high-speed chase west on Highway 10 and then north on Highway 93, reaching speeds of up to 120 miles per hour.

The pursuit continued into Eau Claire, where officers deployed spike strips. The vehicle kept going on damaged tires until the Wisconsin State Patrol performed a P.I.T. maneuver near Lorch Avenue. The suspect then struck an Osseo squad car head-on while trying to escape, prompting a second P.I.T. maneuver that ended the chase roughly 30 miles from where it began. No injuries were reported.

Authorities later learned the vehicle had been stolen and that the driver had fled Eau Claire deputies earlier in the night. The suspect, 29-year-old John L. Koplin of Taylor, Wisconsin, was medically cleared and booked into the Trempealeau County Jail on charges including fleeing an officer and first-degree recklessly endangering safety.

Multiple agencies assisted, including the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office, Mondovi Police, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Eau Claire law enforcement.
