Identity Theft Awareness Week runs January 26th through the 30th, reminding everyone that protecting personal and financial information takes ongoing attention. Identity theft can affect anyone, regardless of age, income, or profession—and busy schedules, especially in healthcare, can make people more vulnerable.

Experts say awareness is the first line of defense. Never share sensitive information unless you initiated the contact and have verified the source. Be cautious of urgent calls, emails, or texts asking for personal details—pressure is a common scam tactic.

Using strong, unique passwords and multi-factor authentication can significantly reduce risk. Regularly monitoring bank and credit card statements helps catch fraud early, even when charges seem small.

Keeping devices updated and secured with passcodes or biometric locks is also key. Identity theft prevention isn’t about fear—it’s about practical habits.
