A Jackson County Sheriff’s sergeant, Stan Edington, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree reckless injury in connection with the May 2025 shooting of a 17-year-old, who was left paralyzed after deputies pursued a stolen vehicle near Hixton. Prosecutors say Edington fired 22 shots at the vehicle; he maintains he believed another deputy was in danger. He remains on unpaid administrative leave. A special prosecutor is handling the case, and the next court hearing is set for mid-February 2026.
