LaVerne C. Sobotta, 93, of Arcadia, passed away
March 26, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse

LaVerne was born on September 24, 1932, in Arcadia to Clifford, Sr. and Sophie (Bautch) Sobotta. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1955, being honorably discharged in 1957. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Servais on August 6, 1957, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia and together the couple was blessed with 8 children. LaVerne was a farmer all of his life, dairy farming side by side with Lorraine for over 50 years and preferring Allis Chalmers tractors. After selling the cows in 1998, the couple started the Sobotta Mercantile, but always continued their commitment to their faith, family and farming heritage.
LaVerne enjoyed classic television shows like Hazel, Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, and The Andy Griffith Show. In his later years, LaVerne enjoyed word search puzzles, picking apples and raspberries, riding in the side by side and going for tractor rides.

LaVerne is survived by his children: Darlene (Joe) Feltes of Holmen, Jane (Ned) Easterling of Corsicana, TX, Joe (Teresa) Sobotta of Suffolk, VA, Lori (Bill) Olson of Arcadia, Randy (Connie) Sobotta of Rochester, MN, Tom Sobotta of Pigeon Falls, Dan (Heidi) Sobotta of Whitehall, and Steve (Krystl) Sobotta of Augusta; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother: Gary Sobotta; and sisters: Annette (Gerry) Guist and Luann (Morris) Guine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Lorraine on April 29, 2021; brothers: Jerome Sobotta and Clifford Sobotta, Jr.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Holy Family Parish with Father Kyle Laylan officiating. Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Edison Funeral Home, Independence, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., where there will be a Public Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Rosary. Burial with Military Rites presented by the Tickfer-Erickson American Legion Post #17 will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, rural Arcadia.
