Lester J. Grunlien, 87, of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on May 19,
2024, at the Pine View Care Center.
Lester was born to Alvin and Stella (Staff) Grunlien on December 4, 1936, and grew up in
Garden Valley Wisconsin with his seven siblings, Elvera, Delores, Roger, Ardell, Leonard, Milan,
and Raymond. The family later moved to Black River Falls where Lester graduated from high
school.
While in high school he began working at Al-Mins Grocery Store, where he continued to work for
35 years as a meat cutter. While working, Lester also served in the Army National Guard from
1954 to 1965 and was called for active duty from 1961-1962, where he was stationed at Fort
Lewis, Washington. After leaving Al-Mins, Lester worked at the Ashley Furniture Factory while
also helping out at the Grunlien family farm for many years.
His favorite pastimes included playing cards, especially Whist and Euchre, being a fan of the
Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers, and being a member of a bowling league for many
years.
Lester is survived by his two sisters, Elvera (Andrew) Anderson of Black River Falls and Delores
“Dee” (Edward) Johnson of Carson City.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Roger, Ardell, Leonard, Milan and wife
Beatrice, and Raymond and wife Joyce.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the Upper Pigeon Creek Lutheran
Church. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with services to begin at 11:00 a.m.
Military honors and burial will take place immediately after.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Upper Pigeon Creek Cemetery
Association (W15766 State Hwy 121, Hixton, WI 54635).
