No Danger to Students: BRF HS Principal Sends Email to Parents Regarding Knife Rumors at Snow Ball Dance

The Black River Falls School District sent an email out to parents last night, regarding rumors that circulated around the school during the Snow Ball Dance on Saturday night.

It was reported around 7:45pm Saturday night, that a student approached Assistant Principal Kim Penza and informed her that they had heard that another student was planning on bringing a knife to the dance with the intention to harm other High School Students.

Mrs. Penza immediately began to interview students about this, and no student was able to give any specific details about this rumor.

The adults at the dance were made aware of the rumor and a thorough search of the building was conducted. The Black River Falls Police Department was contacted and were on site as the dance was ending. The School District stated that they were aware that some students chose to leave the dance early as they felt unsafe.

The School District went on to say in the email to parents, that they are disappointed that rumors were circulating, but they are confident in saying that at no point during the dance were students ever in any danger.

Principal Luke Madsen stated, “We recognize that we are going through some challenging times in our school and community, but we are committed to continuing to create a climate in our building where all students feel safe and valued.”

In closing, Mr. Madsen reported that the staff member who was placed on administrative leave for allegedly making racially insensitive remarks to a student has officially resigned from her position.
