One person was seriously injured Thursday morning after a vehicle struck a horse-drawn buggy on Highway 33 in the Town of Sheldon. The crash happened around 8:10 a.m. near Opera Road when a westbound Chevy Tahoe hit the buggy as it was turning into a driveway.

Authorities say the SUV was attempting to pass the buggy when the buggy turned in front of it. The buggy driver was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Highway 33 was closed for about an hour while crews responded. Names have not been released. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by multiple local agencies.
