A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle Monday night in Jackson County.

Authorities say the crash happened around 7:59 p.m. on March 9 on State Highway 54 between Red Iron Road and Mission Road in the Town of Brockway. A sheriff’s deputy came upon the scene and found a pedestrian who was not breathing. The deputy began CPR and called for an ambulance.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital but was later pronounced dead. Officials say the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Initial reports indicate the pedestrian had been walking in the traffic lane and was wearing dark clothing.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Black River Falls Fire Department, and Black River Falls EMS.

Names of those involved have not yet been released as authorities continue the investigation.
