The Black River Falls Municipal Utilities (BRFMU) is asking customers to conserve energy today and tomorrow, August 26th and August 27th. BRFMU experienced a failure of one of its substation transformers in June and has been working diligently to find a replacement. Replacement equipment has been located and we continue facilitating the changing out of the transformer and associated equipment.
With the hot weather forecasted for today and Tuesday, it is very important that customers do their part to conserve energy to prevent a possible overloading of the distribution system, which could result in a catastrophic failure.
Customers can take the following steps to help reduce their load:

  • Turn off all unnecessary lighting and appliances
  • Avoid drying laundry or limit laundry to early morning or late evening hours
  • Adjust your thermostat to at least 76 degrees to lessen the duration of your air conditioner operating

The goal is to protect our vital electric infrastructure and hopefully prevent the need for BRFMU to shed load by disconnecting circuits in order to preserve the integrity of the system. BRFMU appreciates your cooperation with this request to conserve energy.
