The American Red Cross in Eau Claire will open its donation center on Thanksgiving Day to give residents a chance to help save lives while giving thanks. The center, located on East Hamilton Avenue, will be open Thursday, November 28 from 7 a.m. to noon.

Red Cross recruitment manager Shannon Metcalf says Thanksgiving is a perfect time to show gratitude by donating blood, noting that the need for donations continues even during the holidays. Metcalf’s own story highlights the importance of blood donors—22 years ago, her premature twin sons survived thanks to multiple blood transfusions after a medical emergency during pregnancy. She and her daughter plan to honor that experience by beginning their holiday with a blood donation.

The Red Cross is also partnering with PAC-MAN to celebrate the game’s 45th anniversary. Donors who give blood, platelets, or plasma between November 17 and December 7 will receive exclusive Red Cross and PAC-MAN socks and a limited-edition collectible, while supplies last. Donations in November also qualify for free A1C testing, and Thanksgiving donors will enjoy refreshments, Culver’s coupons, and the chance to enter raffles for local gift cards.
