Police are warning residents about a new scam in which criminals pose as local pastors to steal money through gift cards. Authorities say two people have already fallen victim, losing a combined 23 hundred dollars, and the calls are continuing. Investigators say scammers look up church information online, then call members pretending to be their pastor and ask them to buy gift cards for a supposed charitable cause. Once the cards are purchased, victims are told to share the card numbers or send a photo — giving the scammer access to the money. Police urge residents to verify any unusual request, even if it appears to come from a trusted community leader.
