A semi-tractor was destroyed by fire Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 94 in Jackson County.
Black River Falls Fire and EMS responded at approximately 3:33 p.m. to a report of a semi fire near mile marker 126 eastbound in the Town of Millston. Dispatch advised responding crews that the fire was initially confined to the cab of the truck, which was hauling building materials. The Warrens Area Fire District was called in for assistance.
When firefighters arrived, they found the tractor fully engulfed in flames. The fire forced a temporary shutdown of interstate traffic and sparked a small wildfire along the roadway. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was contacted to assist. Officials say the fire did not spread to the building materials being transported.
After the fire was extinguished, one lane of traffic was reopened. Fire crews remained on scene to assist with traffic control and cleared the incident at approximately 5:35 p.m.
Assisting agencies included the Wisconsin State Patrol, Jackson County Highway Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Warrens Area Fire District, Brauner’s Garage, and Wisconsin DNR Fire.
