In a heartwarming collaboration, over 60 individuals at Stanley Correctional Institution built 22 beds for children in need, working alongside community volunteers. This initiative, organized by Derrick Laufenberg of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, aimed to provide proper sleeping arrangements for kids who would otherwise be on the floor.
The prison raised over $7,300 for the charity through various fundraisers, and this event marked a unique partnership between the nonprofit and a correctional facility.
Participants like Sean Abbott expressed gratitude for the chance to give back, highlighting the positive impact of such projects on their lives. Alongside the beds, inmates also crafted 10 colorful quilts, ensuring a cozy gift for each child.
Laufenberg noted the significance of the day, saying it not only provided beds but also fostered connections and hope for everyone involved. The success of this build has opened the door for future collaborations.
